Archdiocesan Novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe – December 4–12, 2025
The Archdiocese of Boston invites all parishioners to join in a special Archdiocesan Novena from December 4 to December 12, 2025, as the Church begins preparing spiritually for the 500th anniversary of the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe in 2031. In response to the Holy Father’s invitation to deepen devotion and honor Our Lady, Archbishop Henning has launched this nine-day Novena, with each evening hosted by a different parish throughout the Archdiocese. All are encouraged to grow in faith through prayer, music, and fellowship as we honor the loving presence of our Blessed Mother. Parishes are invited to display the Novena poster, pray the Novena together, and celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe within their communities. Parishioners are also encouraged to attend one of the Novena evenings at hosting parishes, including:
Mary Queen of the Apostles (Salem), All Saints (Haverhill), Holy Redeemer (East Boston), St. Paul (Hingham), the Cathedral of the Holy Cross (Boston), Christ the King (Brockton), St. Anthony (Somerville), and Immaculate Conception (Marlborough).

Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God
A Holy Day of Obligation
This day honors Mary’s unique role as the Theotokos, the "God-bearer," affirming her vital place in the mystery of Christ's incarnation. As the new year begins, this solemnity invites the faithful to reflect on Mary’s faith, obedience, and maternal care for Jesus, while seeking her intercession for guidance and peace. It also marks the octave day of Christmas, continuing the joyous celebration of Christ's birth within the context of Mary’s essential role in salvation history.

USCCB Issues Special Message on Immigration
At their Fall Plenary Assembly in Baltimore, the U.S. bishops issued a rare Special Message—the first in twelve years—expressing deep concern for the growing fear, anxiety, and division surrounding immigration in our nation.
The message, overwhelmingly approved by the bishops, reaffirms the Church’s commitment to the God-given dignity of every person. As pastors, the bishops note with sorrow the harsh rhetoric facing immigrants, the strain on families, and troubling conditions in detention centers. They remind us that Catholic teaching upholds both the protection of human dignity and the need for nations to ensure just and orderly immigration systems. The bishops call for meaningful immigration reform, safe and legal pathways, and an end to indiscriminate mass deportations.Rooted in Scripture and Christ’s call to love our neighbor, the bishops offer solidarity to immigrant brothers and sisters:
“You are not alone.” They express gratitude for the many clergy, religious, and lay faithful who accompany immigrants in need, and they urge all people of goodwill to continue this compassionate work while praying for wisdom for our nation’s leaders.
The bishops also encourage parishes to foster communities where newcomers feel welcomed and supported. They remind the faithful that the Church has long been a refuge for those seeking hope and stability, and they invite all Catholics to reflect on how they can personally embody Christ’s mercy toward migrants and families seeking a better life.
